- EXP: A Comprehensive Guide -
=====
What Is EXP?
The EXP system seeks to replace and heavily improve on the Levels system. EXP is earned through many dynamic methods, and best of all, it's automatic. Admin and moderators still can award EXP manually (as will be needed in the case of contests and other special events), but for most circumstances, EXP is earned immediately, without the staff needing to interact. EXP is counted for all actions that have earned you EXP since your first day on the forum, even earnings made before the EXP system was implemented.
But how is EXP earned? That's quite a question, as there are many ways and different amounts earned with each way. The methods can be grouped into two categories: Automatic EXP, and Manual EXP.
=====
Automatic EXP
Automatic EXP is EXP which is earned automatically, without staff participation. Here are the multiple methods to do this.
---
Profile Messages: You earn 5 EXP per profile message you receive from other users.
---
Friends: You earn 10 EXP each time a user adds you as their friend.
Days Registered: You earn 1 EXP for every day you've been listed as an HPF member.
(Note: The above value has been added as a measure of reimbursement due to a glitch found amongst older members that seems to drastically reduce their EXP count. Pending updates, this may change in the future. -Guan)
---
Posting New Topics/Messages: You earn EXP for posting new topics or new messages to a topic as tabled > here <. Our current ratio of EXP given to subject and reply is 10:1 (i.e. For every ten points starting a topic can net you, you can earn one point per response. -Guan)

What Is EXP?
This is a straightforward guide to the new EXP value. EXP has replaced the old Levels system we used to have here at the HPF. Levels were gained by accomplishing different things on the forum, such as reaching 500 posts or winning a contest. Higher levels granted multiple rewards to the user. Unfortunately, the Levels system was archaic; they had to be rewarded manually, with admin or moderators having to select it for every person who earned a level. This obviously got too difficult once our user base grew too large.

Some forums give more exp than others, but there is logic behind it all. Essentially, higher exp amounts are given as a reward for user participation in key forums.
For instance, greeting new members in Introductions is important since we encourage friendliness towards the recently joined, hence the 5 EXP post value; meanwhile, new users can get a one-time boost of 50 EXP just for introducing themselves there.
=====
Manual EXP
Manual EXP is EXP that the HPF staff will personally dole out to users for special occasions. This could be done in a number of ways, but here's just a few possibilities.
---
Contests: The Contests forum has been rather inactive, but this will likely change in the near future. As before, it will serve the purpose of introducing contests that any HPF user can participate in! Winners, and sometimes runners-up, will receive sizable amounts of EXP as a reward for their successes!
---
Artistic Contributions: Simply put, if you draw something that we can use on the HPF, you will get EXP-based rewards for it! A great example would be our Webcomics section: we're always in need of new comics, so drawing an acceptable comic for us will earn you some EXP!
---
Good Conduct: If an HPF user shows particularly-good behavior, a notable amount of kindness to others, or a helpful attitude towards issues on the forum, the staff are welcome to award their good conduct with some extra EXP. This is, of course, up to the staff to decide...just be good to your fellow users and who knows, you might benefit!
---
???: Other methods to earn EXP may inevitably pop up in the future. Keep watch here and around the forum!
=====
EXP-Based Rewards
EXP isn't just a simple number. In fact, high values of EXP can be 'cashed in' for perks. There's no official word on these perks yet, but check back here at a later date!
=====
In Closing
With luck, the EXP System will establish itself as an exciting new dimension to your experiences on the Hungry Pokémon Forums. Enjoy earning EXP!
