EXP and Reputation Systems (Revisions Complete, Read Below)

Okay, I'm just full of new announcements lately! I hope this doesn't detract from the viewcount, because this is perhaps the most important announcement I have as of late!

I'm announcing the start of two new systems...EXP and Reputation! Both are numerical stats that are now viewable in both your Profile and also in the info bar to the sides of your posts. But they are quite different from one another!



EXP is, essentially, a much more effective version of the Levels system we had in place before. Yep, that's right: Levels are gone. EXP is vastly superior and much more interesting than Levels ever were, however...and yes, EXP can earn you rewards! Read the full EXP guide here!



Reputation is basically a honor system. The nicer of a person you are on the HPF, the higher a Reputation you will earn, in theory. This is oversimplifying it, though...let me explain how it really works.

Reputation starts at 0 for all users. To gain Reputation, you rely solely on the other users of the HPF. You can also lose reputation under extreme circumstances, but this usually involves getting in trouble with the staff.

Reputation is gained in one way: when other users give a ' ' vote to one of your posts. A ' ' vote earns you 1 Reputation, while a '-' vote does nothing.

But how does one vote on a post? By some new buttons, of course! Here's a picture of a random person's post.



As you can see, two buttons are on the right side of Adler's message box. The ' ' will give a positive vote and give Adler 1 Reputation; it will also replace the voting buttons for the voter with a green bar, showing they liked the post. The '-' will give a negative vote and do nothing to Adler's Reputation; it will replace the voting buttons for the voter with a red bar, showing they didn't like the post.

So as you can see, a person's Reputation is earned by others appreciating their posts, whether for being kind, informative, whatever. Users, if you see a person with a particularly good post, give them a ' ' and show that you appreciate their efforts! =3

(Note: For those wondering why '-' votes will not decrease a user's Reputation, I feel it opens the door for some personal attacks and trolling. A user can either choose to increase a person's reputation, or they can choose to do nothing to it, and I feel that's enough.)

(02/04/10) - Revisions on the EXP guide are now complete after having received suggestions from all of the administration staff. Until Forumotion gets around to fixing their rather antiquated points system, I'm going to allow +1 EXP for every day that a member has been logged on here, but only to help correct for some major glitches older users have been experiencing and reporting. There has also been a rather heavy overhaul of topic/post EXP, now with a ratio of 10:1. Read the chart below to determine how EXP is now distributed.

(Note: You may notice that some forums do not offer EXP under any circumstances. In the case of the ones listed N/A, those forums rely on staff for new topics, and I see no reason to disproportionately treat staff to EXP gain. In the case of Rants & Raves...to put it bluntly, rewarding people for negative behavior isn't exactly my forte. Not gonna happen.)
