New Subforum Idea: Fakémon (Fake Pokémon) Pokédex!

I was thinking that we should have a subforum for Fakémon artwork. That is, fan-created Pokémon. There's a few galleries online around here and there (such as here: http://www.trsrockin.com/fakepokemon.html ), but I've yet to see one that's very well-organized.

The subforum would be under the Artwork forum. People could then submit their own (or found) Fakémon drawings, along with the usual Pokedex information: Name, Short Description, Type/s, Height, Weight.

From there, I may organize each entry to the standards of a Pokédex entry too. That is, all the info and the picture in a mock-up Pokédex screen. Heck, perhaps I could even find somebody to toss it all together into a flash file at some point, so it can be scrolled through like the Pokédex on the official Pokémon site. (This: http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokedex/ ) Basically, I want to set up a nice, high-quality Pokédex design for the Fakémon section.

I wanted to know your guys' opinions on this. There's some really awesome Fakémon out there (a number of them much better than what Nintendo has been creating as of late...), and I'd like to establish a dedicated subforum for the topic. And as I mentioned, perhaps it could lead into something more professional than that. =P

sounds awesome. I have like 40 fakemon (counting full sets of starters legendaries and all that) but all I can do is sprites. Are sprites ok, or do they have to be hand drawn?

By all means, why not? Sounds like a good idea for people to showcase their own Pokemon creations, plus any interesting ones other people made that they happen to find.

I suppose the worst that could happen would be the whole subforum flooding with Eeveelutions and hybrids. And that's the extent of my negativity for this post.

If so, I've got two.

Sprites might be not accepted in some cases. If they are completely original sprited material, then sure, bring 'em on. However, a lot of Fakemon sprites tend to be mixed-and-matched bits of other Pokemon... There's way too much of that, and I'd like a higher level of effort to be put into our showcased Fakemon. Ideally, I'd like to see drawings...even if they're not super-well-drawn, there's a lot of creativity that can come from a doodle.

Read above. I don't want to see mixed-and-matched Pokemon sprites to construct 'new' Fakemon...that's overdone. If people want to make a million Eeveelutions, that's fine, as long as they're interesting and actually creative. Hybrids are kind of ehhh...if it's sprited, I'd rather it not be shown. If it's drawn, I'm more interested.

Ideally, we seek to make completely original Fakemon, and Fakemon that are evolutions (pre or post) to actual Pokemon.

Sure do. =3 As long as there's actually creativity going on. For instance, don't take a Kangaskan graphic, color it red, and call it an evolution. XP Draw or sprite something original.

By and large, the point here is that we want to have quality Fakemon. One great inspiration would be Twime777 on Youtube. She makes some very awesome Fakemon originals and evolutions. http://www.youtube.com/user/Twime777#g/u

This sounds awesome! I would consider three of my characters to be fakemon and sprited one of them already. I would love to see this happen so I could dig out my drawings and such.

I can honestly take it or leave it. It's neat to see fake Pokemon being viewed, but at the same time, it just doesn't feel as fun as it could with real ones. At least, that's my opinion. So, either way is fine by me.

I don't have any to add at the moment, but I'd love to see this. My sprite work isn't so bad, and I'd definitely try to get a few in down the road.

Assuming this idea ever launches from the ground, I am in full support of this, technically being a Fakémon myself. :}~

I know a guy who draws really good Fakemon. *yawns and rolls* I can point ya to him. I dunno if he'll take requests or not though~

so... are we going to have the fakemon subsection? if so, when?

I really like this idea. I've made about 90 Fakemon and most of them have stats and movepools but only one of them has a sprite/picture. I've seen a few good ones on the internet as well (like my avatar). Would anyone be interested in putting these on a competetive Pokemon server if we get this database up?
