Hi everyone ^^ I'm two days late due to RL stuff but I got to post this, hehe! X3 we're three weeks away from the E3! I must admit that I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I'm sure Nintendo and the others will put up awesome shows, but what I'm worried about is the reaction of the more bitter fans. Will they be pleased ? if the show will be even slightly better than last year, then I'll be fully pleased
we know for sure that we're seeing Zelda, Metroid, the 3DS and the vitality sensor, but I0m sure nintendo will have at least a few surprises to show up his sleeve :3 we just gotta wait now ^^
by the way, hope you americans are enjoying super mario galaxy 2! I hope to be able to join you soon! ^^

WII GAME OF THE WEEK: Sin and Punishment: Star Successor (also known as Sin and Punishment 2 in Japan and Sin and Punishment: Successor of the skies in Europe)
Genre: Shoot'em up
Publisher: Nintendo
Developer: Treasure (Gunstar Heroes, Gradius)
Time played: Around 10 hours

I love shoot'em up games. How many of us spent their meal money on arcade games like Aerofighters, 1942 and games like that ? They were the pure action made into a game. Screens filled with enemies, projectiles and bombs, walls of lasers to avoid and gigantic bosses to take down with your little spaceship.
All of the spirit of those games is in Sin and Punishment: Star Successor. The game series started with the first Sin and Punishment, released on Nintendo 64, but due to the poor sales it never made it out of Japan. Luckily Nintendo made the original title available on the Virtual Console so that diehard fans of such games can enjoy it. What about the sequel though ? Let's find out
The world of S&P is quite peculiar. There's a war between the internal Universe and the external Universe. the guys of the Internal Universe use belligerant creatures called humans to fight the creatures of the external Universe, creating different copies of planet Earth where they train their soldiers. Whenever on one of the many planets a human tries to resist the training and seek for peace the planet is annhilited and rebuilt from zero.
The external universe sends an esper disguised as human called Kachi to study humans, disguising her in a human body and erasing all her memories except for the ones about her mission. Isa is a soldier of the internal Universe, who haves powers of the external Universe, that he got from his father (main character of the first S&P game) He's ordered to kill Kachi, but as soon as they encounter each other they find out they're somehow bonded. Kachi is not human but wants to become one. Isa half-human but wants to become a full one.
They decide to disert their mission and escape together to seek answers to their questions. Chased down by the army of the Internal Universe, the game starts off from this point as they try to escape from a devastated planet Earth.
From the visual standpoint, this game is, not amazing on the graphic side, going for ps2-quality, but astounding on the surroundings and the amount of stuff moving on screen. There aren't resting points in this game. The 90% of the time, your screen will be filled with enemies, projectiles, bullets, lasers, explosions and missiles, yet the framerate won't go down, not even once.
I was really impressed with the variety of views and situations the game provided. Flying around a giant flying castle spaceship, trough a semi-destroyed city, even having a sequence, wich really reminded me of R-Type.
The gameplay is as simple as is fun. Just aim and shoot away. Kachi and Isa are both playable, but they have their differences. Isa is an aim and shoot type and his charged attack can cause huge damaging explosions. Kachi haves an automatic lock-on on the first enemy she its, wich can be useful for hard targets, but she doesn't damage as much, even though her charged attack can lock on a max of 8 targets.
both Kachi and Isa can also execute melee attacks, to get rid of enemies that are close enough, or even knock missiles back, toward where you're aiming, absolutely useful against certain bosses. The levels, like I said before are full of enemies, who really, really want to take you down, without talking about the bosses you'll fight, wich can be very challenging, even on normal mode. I died quite a few times, especially in the last levels of the game, where things really get wild and the game gets serious.
The game is made out of 7 levels, each of them with quite a few (and VERY hard) sub-bosses and two big bosses for level. The game will pretty much force you to use all of your skills and coordination to dodge attacks and aim at the same time, wich will come off as natural after some practice.
The story unfortunately isn't as deep as it could have been, but there are a couple of plot twists that the fans of the first game will be surprised by, I'm sure.
The soundtrack is made out of electric, techno music, very catchy and reminding of the old-school, traditional tunes of this genre (I seriously was reminded of an old shoot'em up I always loved, G-Darius. Giant Mecha Fish spaceships FTW XD), another side of the game that has been worked on quite heavily. Also, there's a nice vocal song playing during the credits
my fave examples of the soundtrack:
Going trough the game once won't take long, around 6 hours. There's a high replayiability value, though, due to an online worldwide leaderboard, where you can post your results and also the fact that the full ending can be unlocked just by clearing the game with both Kachi, Isa and the Kachi+Isa mode. And believe me...replaying the game is really fun, especially after you got the handle of things. It'ěs satisfying to get better results and points each time and if you're a competitive type you'll soon be drawn by the charm of the nearly impossible hard mode of this game.
This game is a must for people who want a nice action-packed challenge, for shoot'em up fans or simply for people who are looking for a nice wii game. It will be worth it, believe me
