WII GAME OF THE WEEK: Jett Rocket (Wiiware game)
Genre: Platformer
Developer: Shin'en (Nanostray 2, Iridion 3D...)
Time spent on it: around 5 hours

what I'm about to review today is a wiiware game that was released a few months ago ^^ Jett Rocket is a game developed by Shin'en, a team of developers really skilled at squeezing the power out of machines despite their limits. This game is a classic platformer, a quite short, but entertaining one that now I'll explain in detail ^^
The graphical factor is the most impressive one, I'd say. The game manages to come really close to Super Mario Galaxy as graphic level...and it's a wiiware game! There's a neat use of a lot of textures and light effects, that really look like they were pulled out of an HD game, for how good they look. The world of Jett Rocket is made out by three worlds with around 4 sub-levels each: islands, icicle and swamp. They're colourful, bright and every little detail seems to be really polished, ending up looking better even than a lot of retail wii games. See what you can do if you actually put some full effort in what you do, third parties ? :3
ahem, anyway, the models are really well made, polished and, most of the time, using detailed textures, even the smallest of enemies. The way the character moves and the levels really give the feeling of an old-school 3d platformer, such as Spyro or Gex if they were made in this gen.
The gameplay is quite simple. Jett, after being robbed by a gigantic robot of his three energy capsules for his spaceship must go in the threee worlds and clear the missions, to activate an energy button in every sub-level and defeat the boss at the end of each world to get back the capsules. To do so Jett haves the most classic actions of a platformer, such as running and jumping and a couple of other tricks, those being a rolling attack that can be executed by flicking the wiimote and flying with the aid of his jetpack, wich haves limited energy though and can be recharged with the help of recharging stations scattered through the levels.
I'ts pure platform action...jump, run and float. Those simple actions make most of the action of the game, wich is very, very nice if I must say. Not many games nowadays are so simple yet so fun. Running and jumping through the levels of this game is a very nice experience and quite challenging at times too, due to difficult jumps in wich you must dose well the amount of energy in your jetpack, the precision of the jump or simply your skills at avoiding enemy attacks. It isn't as hard as a donkey kong country game for sure, but it certainly gives the right amount of challenge to keep the game interesting.
The boss fights, even if just 4 through the entire game and even if they use the same model of robot with variations in his weaponry are quite good and various, due to constant changes in the fighting area and the weaponry of the robot itself, making it up for the bosses looking similar between them.
The story is pretty much non-existant here...it's very simple...bad robots who want to ruin all the planet get your energy capsules, you get them back and defeat the last boss. You certainly shouldn't expect anything more than this plot-wise X3
the soundtrack isn't something that stiucks to your mind for too long, but it's defenitely nice to hear and it follows the style of old 3d platformers as well, going for particular beats and unusual instruments, something not absolutely memorable but nice to hear :3
overall, the game can be finished in around 5 hours, unless you want to find all the secret and solar panels (the “coins” of this game). The game also haves a very cute achievement system for the ones who love to clear those, so the game lenght will probably go on for around other 4/5 hours, probably.
Despite the shortness I recommend this game to all the platformer game lovers who have 1000 nintendo points to spend in something. The low price, the simple but fun gameplay and outstanding graphic look will be worth it
here's a trailer of the game:
http://www.gametrailers.com/video/d.....t-rocket/64828
that's all for this week! Have a good nintengaming time!

The low price, the simple but fun gameplay and outstanding graphic look will be worth it
here's a trailer of the game:

that's all for this week! Have a good nintengaming time!
