Hey guys! After a brief discussion about this in the chatbox, decided to get this topic posted up, as promised! :3

Seeing as most people own Minecraft (and if you don't... why don't you!? xD), I thought it would be a pretty awesome idea to have some HPF Minecraft/Skype nights. Not only would it be a nice way for some community bonding, but I'm sure it would be a lot of fun for everyone. Feathers can set up a Minecraft server with ease, so there wouldn't be a problem on that front!

Skype is an awesome way to communicate when playing a game like Minecraft, and I've personally found that voice chat can really strengthen relationships (Feathers and I have been chatting on Skype for over a year now!) and is a lot more personal than text chat. That being said, I understand if people are nervous or are embarrassed about voice chat - it would be absolutely fine to just play along on Minecraft without being on Skype :3

So, please let me know what you think! Feathers and I are hoping to do a test run-through this weekend, so anyone is welcome to come along! Comments? Suggestions? :3

It's an awesome idea! Except I've got Minecraft downloaded... which means that I can't play it on multiplayer.. I might buy it though. And if you don't play Minecraft, can you still chat on Skype? ^_^

Also what would you guys prefer , Mobs on or just leave it on peaceful? :3 Personally I'd like to have mobs on to make it more challenging etc :3

Just a quick update for you all, Feathers and I are planning on getting this thing going at about 3PM GMT+0 (10AM EST/7AM PST) tomorrow, so we'll fire up our Skypes, fire up our MineCraft and then see how this thing goes! Not sure how long everyone will want to play, but I'll definitely be mining for diamonds for at least a couple of hours. Server info will be posted up here tomorrow before we start. We'll see all you preds and prey there! :3

Update: Looks like today's HPF MineCraft session is a complete failure, due to the MineCraft servers going down at about 2PM GMT. If they come back online later, we can try again, but Notch is currently at GDC, so it might be a while before they're back online.

We'll have to try again some other time.

Well we all finally got it to work after the MineCraft servers went back up! Feathers, Kotetsu, Anthan and I all messed around on a fresh MineCraft server and spent a couple of hours mining, building, running from creepers and chatting on Skype - not sure about the others, but I had a lot of fun! Hopefully we'll get even more people next time! Who knows, we may even do it again tomorrow!

I wouldn't worry too much, yesterday was more of a testing session, so it was better to have small numbers to make sure everything ran smoothly. This is definitely something Feathers and I will be doing again :3

Psh. I'd have to give this a try, except that my ISP is wholly unsupportive of real-time transmission of audio input.

In other words, me + Skype = noises along the lines of g-g-g-g-g-g-g-ghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

By the same token, online games don't work well either~

Everything seemed to go pretty well over the weekend, I think the only ground-rule that's really been needed is 'Respect other peoples work', i.e. if someone's spent a lot of time making something, try not to blow it up! Other than that, all was good, diamonds were found, creepers were ran from and pigs were slaughtered!

Thanks to Anthan, Kotetsu and Chiramyuu who tested out the Skype and MineCraft stuff over the weekend. Feathers and I will let you all know what'll be happening in coming weeks! :3

Not to worry Alex! Feathers and I want to try and be as inclusive as we can with everyone, hence why we wanted to start at 3PM GMT on Saturday to give people in both the UK and the US a chance to participate. What time would be good for you in the future? :3

on the weekends im quite adaptable and wouldn't mind staying up, or getting up at any time x3, but im in australia, my 8pm is your 9am, so...

Unfortunately, I get sent to my mom's with no Internet connection on some weekends... I'll try to make it whenever I can; if I get to stay home, then I'm free @ any time on the weekend.
