Re: favorite pokemon gen
Every new generation is my favorite generation because it adds to the amount of pokemon you can collect. I hear people piss and moan about "Oh look at that they're putting the dough through the cookie cutter again!" but to be honest I like that sort of thing when it comes to pokemon.
Every 100+ pokemon added is another adventure to be had, and at least 100+ more strategies to come up with.

Hmm...if I had to say, the order for the games would be 3, 5, 2, 1, 4.
3 because it was the end of the original typing (mostly. Still waiting on a ghost/steel and some others if gen 5 isn't the last, which I think it's not.)
5 because it introduced 2 new aspects to the games (i.e. kinda functional 3d (Gen 4 didn't do it right or give the "depth" any meaning), and a *SPOILER*continuing story past "ok, now catch the rest of them" after the Elite 4*/SPOILER*.)
2 is only in the top 3 because of the introduction of 2 of my favorite types, dark and steel.

Re: favorite pokemon gen
In terms of "which generation has the best Pokemon", I have no real opinion. I love some and hate some from each game. It bothers me when people are like "Oh, these new Pokemon are so uncreative." Go say hi to Zubat for me, I'll wait.
As for which ones I like best in terms of the gameplay itself? Gen IV, definitely. The physical/special split was a MUCH needed mechanic that made lots and lots of Pokemon usable in ways they weren't before, and simultaneously forced a lot of the old mainstays to rethink their strategies. For that matter, it basically made the entire Dark type usable; the only Special-oriented ones are Houndoom, Hydreigon and Darkrai, so Dark being a Special type was pretty crippling.
It's my personal opinion that a lot of people see Gen I through nostalgia goggles; that is, they think it's a lot better than it actually was just because it's the first in the series, or the first they played. I just like to point out that Gen I is -also- the generation where the strongest move the Psychic type was weak to was Pin Missile and a fast Pokemon using Slash would ALWAYS get a critical hit. It's the generation where you could permanently ruin your game by using Fly in the wrong place. It's the generation where Hyper Beam didn't need to recharge if it scored a KO, and where about half Lance's team had illegitimate movesets.
Gen II, the other common "Favorite generation", doesn't score much better, in my opinion. Overall, it's a fantastic game, and it certainly does a lot to fix the shortcomings of the first game... but I salute you if you can go through Kanto and not think "They completely halfassed this." There's at least an explanation for Cinnabar Island being exploded, but... seriously, half the caves and such are GONE. The fact that the wild Pokemon are leveled around where they originally were (i.e. 2-3 around Pallet Town, etc), and that the vast majority of them -aren't- new, means that all you could really do was hunt down the Gym Leaders.
That ended up fairly long-winded, in all honesty. Long story short? Whether the designs for the Pokemon themselves has become better or worse is purely a subjective matter. It's opinion, plain and simple. What isn't subjective is that the GAMEPLAY has gone nowhere but up; every game has improved something.
Gen II: new types, breeding, glitch-fixing, Psychic-type-un-overpowering
Gen III: double battles, breeding mechanics, improvements in certain mechanics (such as making shinies not bound to specific stats), and fantastic music if I do say so myself
Gen IV: THE PHYSICAL-SPECIAL SPLIT. Dear god yes.
Gen V: Triple and Rotation battles, which are just a neat new way to play. Plus re-usability of TMs.
Frankly, every game has more or less improved on the last, and yet it always feels more like an "improvement" than a "fix," except between Gen I and Gen II. That was definitely mostly fixes. Aside from that, almost all the changes are things that are definitively good, and yet didn't feel "lacking" in the last game.

Re: favorite pokemon gen
For me the most favourite game in Pokemon meaning is generation 2, I loved how they made Lugia, and i actually fell in love with him the first time i saw him, espezially when the movie came out, when It´s about Lugia I get all hyper, altough I do´t have every single fan-article from him: some are way to expensive(In another forum for Pokemon fans, espezialy Lugia and Articuno fans, the founder of the forum has 20 out of 23 Offizial Lugia plushies, it costed her more than 10000 bucks i think? well it comes close to that price actually)
by Gameplay I have to say that the advancements of Gen 4 and 5 were really sweet, the split up between spezial and physical moves was really game-breaking for most strategies, not to mention the new HM´s that don´t run out anymore

While I liked certain parts of each series, I remember having tons of my favorite Pokemon from emerald; Seviper, Mawile, Rayquaza, Skitty, Gardevoir, Absol (if you didn't notice), Blaziken, and such... All I'm saying is most of my favorites are from that generation, though I still love some of the newer or older ones.

My favorite pokemon Gen was 3, and why is that so?
One word: Mudfish.
EDIT: The reason why I don't like Gen 5 is because I never played Black or White. And I don't have enough cash DX

Each gen. has its pros and cons, but I appreciate Gen 2. the most for nullifying the over-dominance of psychic types by introducing the Dark and Steel varieties. They all have their merits, but Gen. 2 was the game-changer.

Generation one was the best. Two was just as good. Three was... alright, and it kept going downhill from there. Sure, there's a few good ones in the newest batches, but ultimately they're just... ew...

There's no question about it for this one, first generation was by far the best. In red, blue, and yellow, the concept was simple, the game was honest and pure, and the original 151 Pokemon in them are the eternal icons of the pokemon franchise. Kenshin believes that the "soul" of pokemon lies in the original three. I mean, now there's an ice cream Pokemon, for crying out loud. (No offense meant to any Vanillish or Vanilluxe out there.)

To me, Pokemon is Pokemon, regardless of generation. Although I couldn't really get into R/S/E or D/Pe/Pl, I still found some Pokemon that I liked in both generations(Absol, Rayquaza, & Seviper in Hoenn, and Luxray & Dialga in Sinnoh), and I liked the introduced mechanics.

I picked second...though that's cause I like Frilageter (I think that's right,) anyway first was also a close choice just cause it was broken and if your main pokemon never fainted you'd always get a critical hit and pown people...well that and charizard...Though fith was also a close choice for me, as there are some awesome ones like lampent the lamp pokemon, I laugh every time I fight it in rumble blast. but in the end I have to pick second. I like totodile and it's evelotions.
