Analyzing corner: the Hydreigon family

Post by Houndoomed on April 15th 2011, 10:18 pm

Look, I came up with a name for this nonsense now! Bet I won't remember it by next time I do one of these.

Anyways, the Gen V pseudolegendary: Hydreigon. Let's start with the obvious: the German stuff.
Deino: Dei: One
Zweilous: Zwei: Two
Hydreigon: Drei: Three

Hehe, they have their numbers of heads in their name. Fun.

Also, if you add how their heads and wings in each stage, you get the first three square numbers.
Deino has one head and no wings: 1
Zweilous has two heads and two wings: 4
Hydreigon has three heads and six wings: 9

What a pointless thing to notice, right?

Now, for the gritty stuff: how do they work?

Deino... has one head, and its emo-hair style face... covering? prevents it from seeing. Therefore, it just tackles and noms anything nearby. Fun! Nothing too complicated there, eh?

Zweilous has a second head. I see no reason to try to explain -why- this happens. Maybe it was exposed to radiation. Maybe it ate something weird. Who knows? Either way... its two heads apparently have distinct personalities. Also, they hate each other, and compete for food. They also still don't seem to be able to see.

As for Hydreigon, however... it has three heads, but only the central one has a personality. The other two serve as hands; they're mindless limbs that just help it more efficiently eat what's edible, and obliterate what isn't.

So... the question is, where'd the second personality go? Here's my theories:

1. Zweilous' life is like one big game of Hungry Hungry Hippos. Does anyone still know what that is? Ah, well. Anyways, the two heads compete for food because whichever one eats more gets to be the dominant personality when it evolves. They're competing for control of their body. No wonder they hate each other so much.

2. Whatever controls evolution realizes "Wait, those heads are stupid. Screw this, we're starting this crap over." Hydreigon then grows a cool new head. Also, the new head can see, because eyes are useful. The old two heads are just put under the central head's control.

2a. And, maybe, the new personality of the third head is actually a merging of the personalities of Zweilous' two heads. Which hate each other. So it's like it has split personalities that hate each other. No wonder it acts so violent all the time.

Also, unlike Mawile's ambiguous nom-horns, I think it's a pretty safe assumption that Hydreigon's 'hands' are fully capable of consumption. The arms used to be fully functional necks, assuming Hydreigon's subordinate heads used to be Zweilous'.

Well, that's all I got? Any interesting input? Post it here. Let me argue with you*. :3

*No arguing will actually occur. A spirited debate, at worst.

One thing. The Ein in Deino means 1, you've put that it was the Dei.

Eh. Mi espanol es mucho mejor de mi aleman*.

*My Spanish is much better than my German.

Though I can't type properly in most foreign languages, due to a lack of accent keys. I had to get an e with an accent into a paper once, and I had to type "Pokemon," get the accent autocorrected in, then delete the rest of the word and type the new one around the e.

But I digress.
