How would pokemon stats be in real life?Like sp.defense or sp.attack.

Post by Kharma on July 25th 2011, 12:37 pm

I know it may seem ridiculous but we all know that in real life special attacks wouldn't exist. So special defense wouldn't be the ability to endure them.Attack is how hard and strong a pokemon can hit.Defense is how many physical blows a pokemon can take and not die ..But what would special defense be like. And special attack..How about those two?!
And what exactly is HP? Like l mean, how can blissey have such high HP? How much HP would a human have in Pokemon World?!(the average human)..

HP would be stamina I think. While not intrinsically faster than something else, the ability to run for longer periods of time.

Special defense is a resistance to... energy, to use the most utterly generic term possible. Think of it in terms of a suit of armor. If you're wearing a full suit of platemail, you'd be laughing off physical strikes, most melee weapons, even weaker firearms.

But... what is that going to do about other sorts of attacks? Electricity happily goes right through metal. Fire wouldn't seem an immediate threat, until you realized you were practically being cooked alive. While not 'energy', per se, armor also wouldn't help much with drowning, or freezing to death, or being telekinetically ripped into fun little shreds.

Now, to be fair, special defense doesn't make a ton of sense as being a universal shield against all of these things. But, think about a lot of the Pokemon that have high special defense. Chansey, Clefable and things of that nature? Call it magic. For all the other logic of the Pokemon world, why not? For the more psychically inclined, call it sheer willpower. Something that can warp reality with its mind can certainly survive a fire by ~BELIEVING!~ it can survive a fire, right?

As for special attack, it's the Pokemon's ability to use whatever non-physical attack method it chooses. It ceases to make sense for moves outside the type for a lot of Pokemon, but you can't always expect video game stat values to make sense, now can you? It'd be needlessly complicated to have that many different attack stats.

HP... is endurance. To further my analogy to armor, high HP would be somebody who can take a ton of punishment even WITHOUT armor. It helps that most RPGs and such I play directly relate the endurance stat to HP.

I've read somewhere that Hp is related to the mass of the pokemon, not the sheer willpower to live though that also means that a Blissey is much more massful than a freaking whale and a Groundon, which doesn't make too much sense in game terms as is.

I agree with silver for the most part with special defense. I just see it as being able to withstand attacks from the non-physical... if a Tsunami and a lightning bolt could be considered non-physical but an earthquake is physical *shrugs* thinking in game terms as well this is starting to confuse me.

Special attack is much easier to describe as how strong their 'magical' abilities are to manipulate the land, sea, air, and fire around them (poison too and a few other things if you put it in terms).
