OLD REVIEW: Eledees/Elebits

Post by Sparky the chu on January 23rd 2010, 4:33 am

READ THIS BEFORE THE REVIEW: since in the past I posted other reviews
with the wiikly news reports I'm gonna post them here too, so that you
won't miss them. I'll post an old one each day until we are caught up
with the current ones ^^

Keep in mind that those reviews are
old...I did this one almost one year ago, so my writing and my way to
explain things may have been quite a bit worse back then (and were also
shorter than now), but I figured it would be interesting ^^

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BACK TO THE PAST: Eledees/Elebits (the name depends if you're in europe or USA or
somewhere else)
genre: first person shooter (?)
now, this game was a nice surprise, since it's a very particular original game...I mean
it takes the kind of gameplay of an FPS placing it into a very curious setting ^^ so
lets get into it ^^

the story starts like a fairy tale of this child who seems to hate creatures called
Elebits (they're called Eledees in the pal version but still... ^^; ), who seem to be
the electric source of his world. He hates them because his parents always seem to study
them, ignoring him all the time. One day though there's a massive black out in the city,
since the elebits suddenly seem to go nuts and run away from their places and the
parents go to the lab to find out what's happening, leaving the kid at home alone. just
when he's going to watch some tv he's reminded of how he can't watch tv without the help
of the elebits. He decides to catch them and try to restore the electricity, but since
he won't touch them with his bare hands (even though I would, some of them are adorable
X3) he borrows his father's 'grab-gun' capable to catch everything it hits instead of
hurting it and also able to actually lift objects.

this is the premise of the game, a fairy tale-ish plot that will get you trough the game
^^ the gameplay works like this: you'll find yourself in different settings and your
task is to catch the hiding elebits...you can doing so by using the gun to lift up
objects, see if they're hiding inside glasses, closets, behind a computer or under your
bed. EVERYTHING around you can be lifted and moved, but not right away...at the
beginning of every level the gun will have a certain weight capability, so you'll just
be able to lift lighter objects, like glasses, toys, rocks, stuff like that.

catching the elebits, who will try to flee as soon as you find them (there are several
kinds with different fleeing patterns and attitudes. more forward in the game there's a
kind who will be able to actually attack you, beside the bosses) you'll be able to
charge your gun with electricity. you'll actually be able to activate the electric
devices in the levels with that electricity to force out different-coloured elebits.
catching them you'll charge up your gun with weight power and you'll be able to lift
heavier objects...at a certain point you'll also be able to lift up and throw around
entire houses! XD I'm serious >:3

the level design is also very nice, since you'll have to face not only this hide and
seek game but also a few puzzles. like, to activate something like an oven you'll have
to put a chicken inside of it or even more difficult puzzles that will force you to
think quite a bit >:3

anyway, beside the normal levels you'll also have to face different bosses, powered
elebits capable to hurt you and you'll have to face them in different ways, damaging
them until you are able to catch them. one semi-spoiler: the last boss will probably
make you go "WTF!" X3

now, the graphic look of the game is nothing too impressive, but it's good and average,
it isn't ugly at all. levels are various and colourful and the variety of objects you'll
find will amaze you. you will also be able to make up your own levels and play in a
multiplayer match ^^

the soundtrack is very fitting for the game, quite calm and with a good rhytm. the only
fast-paced songs are the boss ones obviously and those ones are good too ^^

the flaw I feel like pointing out is a framerate not always perfect but not too bad for
the gameplay

so if you're looking for something different I'd suggest you to give this game a try ^^
Eledees/Elebits is a very unique and particular game and for the people who'll like it
there's also a sequel on DS wich I'm gonna get as soon as I can ^^

time to catch a lot of little cute things! >:3

lunch is ready!

admit it, you'd wish to do this with the house of someone you hated >:3
